PURPOSE:To provide a medical instrument of high safety having permanent lubricating ability when a surface thereof is wetted in a body fluid, aqueous solvent and the like by forming the medical instrument of a reactant of a water swelling polymer where a reactive functional group is existing in a molecule with a base material having a proton-donative group being reactive with the reactive functional group. CONSTITUTION:A material having a proton-donative group, being reactive with a reactive functional group, such as an amino group, imino group, hydroxyl group, carboxyl group and mercapto group is coated with a water swelling polymer in whose molecule at least one kind of reactive functional group such as an epoxy group, acid halide group and isocyanate group is existing, so as to chemically bind the water swelling polymer with a surface of the material to provide a medical instrument 10. In this medical instrument 10, frictional resistance of the material surface is remarkably reduced and particularly the frictional resistance when wetted with a body fluid such as saliva and digestive juice and aqueous fluid such as physical salt solution and water, namely in a water wetting state, is extremely small and an advantage such as facilitation and pain reduction in catheter insertion can be obtained. |
