The present invention provides a thin-wall external drum (100) for an external drum imaging system (10). The external drum (100) includes a cylindrical portion (102) having a hollow (108) tube and a pair of end plates (104A,104B) mounted to opposing sides of the hollow tube (108), wherein the hollow tube (108) has the wall thickness less than or equal to 1.5 percent of the outside diameter of the external drum (100).
