A paper-making machine tautens and de-waters a wet web by the application of a felt press panel made up of a holding substrate and monofilic threads. The threads are especially of essentially circular cross section with helical fluted profiles. The helical monofilic threads may alternatively have core cross-sectional profiles which are oval, tri-lobed, polygonal, square, rectangular, clover-leafed and/or triangular. The thread has one or more fluted grooves distributed around the circumference. The transition between the ridge and groove may be rounded or defined by a sharp edge. The fluting is defined during the manufacturing process and are free of torsion in the felt press panel.
