A reactive triarylmethane colorant compound of formula (I) is new. A reactive triarylmethane colorant of formula (I) is new. R,R 1-R 4alkyl, aryl, arylalkyl, or alkylaryl, or each can be joined to Ph to form ring; R'a-R'c : halo, alkyl, alkoxy, nitrile, nitro, amide, or sulfonamide; zl-z3 : 0-4; n : number of C in each repeat alkylene oxide unit; x : number of repeat alkylene oxide units; D : anion; g : charge on anion. The colorant has no OH, SH, and/or primary or secondary amino per molecule. Independent claims are also included for: (a) a compound comprising two or more moieties of formula (II) containing no OH, SH, or primary or secondary amino and linked by a central atom(s) or bonded to a polymer; (b) a compound which is the reaction product of the colorant compound and a monoisocyanate; (c) a phase change ink comprising a phase change carrier and a colorant compound comprising one or more moieties of formula (II); and (d) a process which comprises incorporating into an ink jet printing apparatus a phase change ink composition comprising a phase change ink carrier and a colorant compound comprising one or more moieties (II); melting the ink; and causing droplets of the melted ink to be ejected in an imagewise pattern onto a substrate.
