Fluorene derivatives of specific formula are produced by condensation of fluorene and a phenol of specific formula under coexistence of a thiol and hydrochloric acid water. Fluorene derivatives of formula (II) are produced by: condensing fluorenone and a phenol of formula (I) under coexistence of a thiol and hydrochloric acid water.
