Surfactant composition comprises a diol derivative and surfactant. Surfactant composition comprises a diol derivative (A) of formula (I) and a surfactant (B). [Image] R 3>, R 4>alkyl or alkenyl group having 4-22 (preferably 6-12)C and the other is hydrogen; and R 2>alkyl or alkenyl group having 1-18 (preferably 1-3)C. Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) use of compound R 1>-CH(OH)-CH 2-O-R 2> or component A to increase foam of a surfactant; and (2) use of component A as a surfactant foam-increasing agent. R 1>alkyl or alkenyl group having 6-21C.
