PURPOSE: A gripping device for a bottle is provided to prevent the bottle from cracking or breaking in transporting by gripping the bottle by a retaining unit fitted to a neck unit of the bottle and a plurality of hanging members firmly contacted to a recessed portion of the bottle. CONSTITUTION: A device(1) for gripping a bottle(B) by using a recessed portion(15) of the bottle is composed of a retaining unit(2) for surrounding the whole periphery of a neck unit(14); a sliding cylinder(26) installed to slide along an outer peripheral surface(22) of the retaining unit; a plurality of through-holes(4) formed near a lower end of the retaining unit; and a plurality of hanging members(5) held in each through-hole. When the sliding cylinder moves upward to a first position(P1), the hanging member moves outward a diametral direction(Y) of the retaining unit and the retaining unit is allowed to fit the neck unit. When the sliding cylinder moves down to a second position(P2), a portion of the hanging member is protruded from the through-hole to the neck unit and thrust and hung at the recessed portion.
