An auxiliary system (4) is connected to the subscriber exchange (2) via an exchange port. The current status of a mobile extension device (6a, 6b) connected to the subscriber exchanger can be evaluated by a unit (8) connected to or forming part of the mobile phone network (6). Information can be exchanged between this unit and the subscriber exchange and/or auxiliary system, the latter being an intelligent system with one or more connections or links (4) to the exchange and one or more communication links to a data network (5). The subscriber exchange and/or auxiliary system are informed of any change in extension device status. One or devices (1a) are connected directly to a telecommunication network and one or more subscriber exchanges are connected to this network too. At least one auxiliary system is connected to the subscriber exchange. One or more mobile extension devices can be connected to the subscriber exchange.
