A method and apparatus for improving the corrosion resistance of chrome plated materials that provides for heating the chrome plated materials above the melting point of a buffing compound, and then buffing the heated materials with the buffing compound applied. An induction heater is used, before or after the buffing compound is applied. Computer controls, responsive to operator input of the cross-sectional size, composition and/or speed of movement of the chrome plated materials, to in turn regulate the power to an induction coil heater.
