A process for producing a laminate of optical element composed of liquid crystal substance layers free of any support substrate film, comprising at least the first step (1) of preparing laminate (A) composed of isotropic substrate/adhesive layer (1)/liquid crystal substance layer (1); the second step (2) of preparing laminate (B) composed of removable substrate/adhesive layer (2)/liquid crystal substance layer (2); the third step (3) of bonding the laminate (A) and the laminate (B) together through a pressure sensitive adhesive (adhesive) layer, thereby obtaining laminate (C) composed of the removable substrate/adhesive layer (2)/liquid crystal substance layer (2)/pressure sensitive adhesive (adhesive) layer/liquid crystal substance layer (1)/ adhesive layer (1)/isotropic substrate; and the fourth step (4) of detaching the removable substrate from the laminate (C) and bonding a polarizing plate to the adhesive layer (2), or bonding a polarizing plate to the isotropic substrate of the laminate and detaching the removable substrate.
