<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a unrepeatered optical transmission system with higher efficiency and economicity, and also to provide its method. <P>SOLUTION: The system includes a unrepeatered transmission line, having pure silica core fiber 4 and dispersion compensation fiber 5 and forming an unrepeatered transmission section 10 for propagating an optical signal without a repeater. The optical signal amplified at a transmission end by an optical amplifier 3 is attenuated in signal force by loss in optical fiber, in response to propagation through the pure silica core fiber 4 and the dispersion compensation fiber 5. The attenuated signal is amplified by a laser beam of 1.48 μm, for example, which is made incident from a rear part, so as to enlarge unrepeatered transmission distance. The dispersion compensation fiber is used in the unrepeatered transmission section. Consequently, a large capacity of transmission is performed in long distance without the repeater, so that signal amplification in a terminal, etc., is displaced. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
