PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pneumatic tire totally improved in the performance of operation such as driving, turning, and braking after a wear middle period of a tire having a straight lateral groove extending in a tire width direction. SOLUTION: The pneumatic tire has a large number of blocks 4 divided by a main groove 2 extending in a tire circumferential direction and the straight lateral groove 3 extending in the tire width direction. One or more shelf stages 7 shaped in generally triangle in plane view and having a tip end portion 5a projecting from a first side wall surface toward a second side wall surface are formed at a corner portion between at least one of the side wall surfaces 4a, 4b and a groove bottom 6 of the lateral groove 3. The height h from the groove bottom 6 of the shelf stage 7 is made to be 10 to 60% of the groove depth GD of the lateral groove. Preferably, projecting length W form a side wall surface of the tip end portion 5a is made to be 20 to 60% of the groove width GW of the lateral groove 3, and shelf stage length PW along a length direction of the side wall surface of the shelf stage 7 is made to be 20 to 80% of the wall surface length BW of the side wall surface.
