PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an aqueous resin dispersion which can form a coating film having high stability and being excellent in various properties such as blocking resistance, adhesion to substrate, water resistance, and stainproofing effect and which, when contains a constituent resin with a suitably selected glass transition temperature, can realize excellent low-temperature film-forming properties and nonstickiness almost without needing any volatile organic compound and to provide a method for producing the same. SOLUTION: The aqueous resin dispersion is characterized in that pseudo-heterophasic particles are formed by using as cores anionic copolymer particles (a) which are anionic copolymer particles of an ethylenically unsaturated monomer and in which ethylenically unsaturated monomer units having at least either an ethylene glycol chain or a propylene glycol chain account for 1 to 20% of the copolymer and heterocoagulating cationic polymer particles (b) having a particle diameter smaller than that of the particles (a) on the surfaces of the particles (a).
