PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a chip size and to quickly update the display of a specific area in a display picture by a simple procedure. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal display device includes: a display RAM1 for storing picture data displayed on the whole display screen; an OSDRAM 2 integrated to the display RAM1; an address counter 3 for generating addresses for the display RAM1; a latch circuit 4 for latching picture data read out from the display RAM1; a timing control circuit 5 for outputting clocks LE1, LE2, LE3 for controlling the latch timing of the latch circuit 4; a liquid crystal driving circuit 6; and a liquid crystal panel 7. Since the OSDRAM part 2 and display RAM part 1 are included in the display RAM1, and whether data stored in the OSRAM part 2 are to be displayed in an OSD area R1 or data stored in the display RAM part 1 are to be displayed is switched for each pixel by the latch circuit 4, a selector for selecting read data from the OSDRAM2 or read data from the display RAM1 is made unnecessary.
