PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To favorably remove adhesives adhering to the inside of a passage extending from a coking device through a carbonization gas burning device to an exhaust blower. SOLUTION: This operation method is provided for a carbonizing apparatus 10 including: a carbonizing furnace 12 for coking material to be treated and carbonizing the same; a carbonization gas burning furnace 12 for guiding carbonization gas generated in the carbonizing furnace through a transfer pipe to be burned; and an exhaust blower 25 disposed on the downstream side of the carbonization gas burning furnace to guide the combustion gas generated in the carbonization gas burning furnace to the outside. While the opening and closing lids 28, 29, 32, 33 mounted in the carbonizing furnace of the opening and closing lid 28 and the transfer pipe are opened, the exhaust blower is operated to perform cleaning operation in which the state where the flow velocity of air flowing through the transfer piper reaches a designated value continues for a fixed time.
