PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new compound exhibiting potent and selective cathepsin K inhibitory action and also useful for production of a cyclic amide derivative which can be used as a bone resorption inhibitor useful as a therapeutic agent for bone diseases such as osteoporosis. SOLUTION: The subject hydroxy carboxylic acid derivative is expressed by formula (V). In formula (V), ring A is a 5-7C saturated cycloalkyl or a 3-6C saturated heterocyclic group containing a hetero atom, R1is a substituted alkyl, a substituted alkenyl, a substituted amino, a substituted alkoxy, a substituted alkylthio, a substituted carbamoyl, a substituted sulfonamide or a substituted amide group, R2is H, a (substituted) alkyl group or a (substituted) aromatic hydrocarbon or a (substituted) heterocyclic group.
