PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and an apparatus for producing a hot-rolled steel sheet so as not to give the damage to pinch rolls or a device at back step from the pinch rolls caused by the meandering of the hot-rolled steel sheet at the outlet side of a finish-rolling mill, and also, so as not to cause the clogging of the steel sheet, when the steel sheet is cooled by using a cooling device. SOLUTION: This production method for hot-rolled steel sheet is the producing method, with which the hot-rolled steel sheet is finish-rolled with the finish-rolling mill, and after pinching this steel sheet with the pinch rolls having levelling function, this steel sheet is cooled with the cooling device and the steel sheet after cooling is wound with a coiler. The meandering amount of the steel sheet is detected with a meandering detector disposed at the outlet side of the finish-rolling mill, and before starting the winding of the tip end part of the steel sheet into the coiler, the levelling of the pinch rolls is performed with a feedforward control, and after starting the winding of the tip end part of the steel sheet onto the coiler, the levelling of the finish-rolling mill is performed with a feedback control.
