PURPOSE: A backlight structure for an LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to improve contrast by preventing that light leaks in adjacent blocks of a field-sequential type LCD. CONSTITUTION: An LCD panel(210) is divided into a plurality of blocks(210A-210D) to be driven. A light guide plate(221) is divided into a plurality of blocks(221A-221D) corresponding to the divided blocks of the LCD panel, and is formed on a rear surface of the LCD panel. A plurality of optical source parts(222A-222D) partitioned to correspond to the divided blocks of the LCD panel supply red, green and blue lights. A control unit controls the lighting of a plurality of the optical source parts. Each of the divided blocks of the light guide plate has the maximum refractive rate in a central part. The refractive rate is slantingly reduced toward a boundary surface of adjacent blocks of the divided blocks of the light guide plate.
