PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To record an MPEG compressed signal by an HD method and a DV compressed signal by an SD method on a DV tape simultaneously and select either of the methods freely to reproduce the DV tape. SOLUTION: Two one-base 2-chip magnetic head devices are mounted on a rotary drum on which a magnetic tape is wound and fed, and the MPEG compressed digital signal by the HD method is supplied to one HD(E) and HD(O) out of the two head chips of magnetic head devices, and the DV compressed digital signal by the SD method is supplied to the other head chip SD(E) and SD(O). Then, their signal tracks are formed in one DV tape by means of a track recording pattern peculiar to the example to realize simultaneous recording.
