PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a porous metallic material in which the size and distribution of voids and the thickness of the wall of a matrix are controlled, further, porosity is controlled, also, pores on the wall in a base material are minimized, and thereby the formation of openings on the surface is prevented or the size and shape of communicated pores are controlled, and to provide a production method therefore. SOLUTION: In the method for producing the porous metallic material where aluminum or an aluminum alloy or other metal or alloy is uses as a base, the periphery of at least one kind of spacer resin is coated with at least one kind of base material metal and the coated spacer resin is connected to a connection part in a state where a resin or voids are arranged, compression molding is performed, thereafter, the spacer is removed by thermal decomposition or dissolution, and at this time, each metal is joined by a joining method such as sintering, diffusion bonding, adhesion or the like.
