PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide polymer particles which improve the affinity with organic solvents and inhibit hygroscopicity. SOLUTION: A process for producing the polymer particles comprises subjecting a mixture containing an ethylenically unsaturated monomer, a partially saponified polyvinyl acetate having a degree of saponification of 50-95 mol%, and a polymerization initiator with an amount of the above partially saponified polyvinyl acetate of 0.1-500 pts.wt. and an amount of the above polymerization initiator of 0.1-10 pts.wt. based on 100 pts.wt. ethylenically unsaturated monomer to suspension polymerization in an aqueous medium to obtain an aqueous dispersion of a polymer, and then saponifying the dispersion in the presence of a basic substance.
