The illuminated sign includes an illuminated plate (11) as an information carrier. The plate is at least partly transparent or translucent. The sign also includes a light or lamp which sends light into the plate and which includes at least one light emitting diode (10). The diode emits light radially into the plate. The diode may be e.g. fitted coaxially into a bore (12) in the plate.
