A method for generating an item of information in a supporting body should, by using simple means, produce an item of information that is stable over a lon g period of time and, in particular, with regard to light and moisture. To thi s end, the reaction conditions for a number of reactants contained in the supporting body are set in a localized partial area of the supporting body b y laser irradiation, whereby the reaction conditions set are those that cause the reactants to enter into a synthesis reaction.
