PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing an optical fiber coupler, in which a device configuration can be made simple and fusion work can be made efficient. SOLUTION: Two optical fibers 11, 13 are partly decreased in the diameter by heating/drawing them at different positions, respectively. Three optical fibers 11 to 13 are brought into contact with each other almost in parallel at the parts from which the coating members 11A to 13A are removed, and are held together with the decreased diameter parts placed at different positions. The optical fiber coupler 10 coupled at fused parts is manufactured by heating/drawing the parts in contact with each other together with the decreased diameter parts, and fusing the two optical fibers 11(13), 12 in different combinations and at different positions. A decreased diameter part is not in contact with the other two optical fibers 11(13), 12 to be fused, and can be held selectively even if held together, and thus the configuration can be simplified and the workability is improved.
