PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a head positioning device which can perform the positioning of a head quickly and highly accurately. SOLUTION: A head positioning device is provided with a magnetic head 15, a head supporting mechanism 14, a coarse motion actuator 12, a fine motion actuator 13, a head position detecting part 7, a fine motion control system 8 controlling the fine motion actuator 13 on the basis of the head position detected by the head position detecting part 7, a head movement distance estimating part 3 estimating head movement distance indicating distance in which the magnetic head 15 is moved on the basis of back electromotive voltage generated by the coarse motion actuator 12, and a coarse control system 4 controlling the coarse motion actuator 12 on the basis of the head movement distance estimated by the head movement distance estimating part 3.
