PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a tricyclic furan compound having a reactive group on its aromatic ring, in a good efficiency. SOLUTION: This method for producing the furan compound expressed by formula (1) comprises performing a ring fusion reaction of a compound expressed by formula (2) [wherein, rings A and B are each independently an aromatic ring which may have a substituent selected from hydroxy, an alkyl, an alkoxy, an alkylthio, an aryl, or the like; Y<SB>1</SB>and Y<SB>2</SB>are each independently a halogen atom, a substituted sulfonate, or the like; (a), (b) are each independently 0-2 integer, but satisfy (a+b)≥1; and provided that the ring A, ring B, Y<SB>1</SB>, Y<SB>2</SB>, (a) and (b) in the formula (1) have the same definitions to those in the formula (2)].
