PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image signal delay amount automatic setting method capable of automatically detecting the transmission delay time of image signals even if no time code reaches a receiving end. SOLUTION: In a system for receiving image signals output from an A apparatus 1 by a B apparatus 3 via a transmission path containing at least a codec apparatus 2, the image signals with specific points where image properties vary are outputted from the A apparatus 1. A delay time required for the image signals outputted from the A apparatus 1 to reach the B apparatus 3 is measured from the time when the specific points of the image signals are transmitted from the A apparatus 1, and from the time when the B apparatus 3 receives the specific points.
