PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic recording medium having excellent dispersibility, smoothness and electromagnetic transducing characteristics, excellent running durability, nearly free from scraping of the surface of a magnetic layer and stains of a head in repetitive running of the magnetic recording medium of high recording density for a computer or the like and having excellent shelf properties under high temperature and high humidity. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium has a magnetic layer 1 containing ferromagnetic fine powder and a binder on a non-magnetic support, or has a non-magnetic layer containing non-magnetic powder and a binder and a magnetic layer 2 containing ferromagnetic fine powder and a binder in this order on a non-magnetic support. An acrylic copolymer (A) formed by copolymerizing 1 to 45 mass% radically polymerizable monomer having a nitrogen atom, 0.1 to 10 mass% conjugated diene monomer containing a sulfonate group and 45 to 98.9 mass% monomer copolymerizable with these monomers is contained in at least one layer of the magnetic layer 1, the non-magnetic layer and the magnetic layer 2.
