PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately measure the cross-section size of an H-section steel by a simplified structure. SOLUTION: A size measuring system is equipped with detection heads 37 and 57 for irradiating laser light to the surface of the H-section steel 100 and receiving reflected light from the surface of the steel 100 to measure a distance to the surface of the steel material, biaxial stage mechanisms 20 and 40 for supporting the detection heads 37 and 57 movably in two orthogonal axial directions and supporting the detection heads 37 and 57 rotatable in a plane including the two axes, and a rotary mechanism, and a control part for controlling the mechanisms 20 and 40 and the rotary mechanism so as to cause the surface of the steel 100 be irradiated the laser light while moving the heads 37 and 57 within a plane including a cross-section of the steel 100 parallel to the surface of the steel 100.
