The invention relates to an antimicrobial peptide, known hereafter as halocyntin, which is isolated from a marine invertebrate extract, whose amino acid sequence is as follows: FWGHIWNAVKRVGANALHGAVTGALS, the derivatives thereof, the fragments thereof and a polypeptide containing said peptide. The invention also relates to transformed host organisms, such as vegetal cells and plants, which can produce the inventive peptide. The invention also relates to an antimicrobial composition containing the inventive peptide.
