PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for detecting and controlling termites. SOLUTION: In this apparatus, a station 10 at least partially received in a space under the ground has at least one opening 37 for giving the termites access to its inside. An aggregation base 22 received in the inside of the station 10 and attractive to the termites has at least one void for forming an aggregation site for the termites. An observation container 24 received in the inside of the station 10, positioned in an area adjacent to the aggregation base 22, and replaceable has at least one opening, so that the opening faces the aggregation base 22 for the purpose of making the termites pass from the aggregation base 22 to a chamber inside the observation container 24. The observation container 24 has such a size and shape as to be removed from the station 10 by minimizing disturbance to the aggregation base 22, and therefore the aggregation site formed in the void of the aggregation base 22 by the termites is protected.
