The present invention refers to a telephone exchange, a telephone system and a method for setting up telephone connections to at least one other exchange via a computer network. The exchange (10) comprises a switch control (42) means and a network connection device (44) for communication with one other network connection device in another exchange (12). The network connection device in the exchange and the other network connection device set up a bi-directional data packet connection for signalling between each other via the computer network (14).
