Process for packaging flat and bend-resistant packaging product (4) in a bag chain made of plastic film uses a device for transporting the packaging product, a device for transporting the packaging foil and a device for feeding the packaging product into the bags of the bag chain. The packaging product is initially moved parallel to the packaging foil and then at an angle to the bag chain. The packaging product is placed on a first finger chain (5) with a first distance between the bags, and is taken over by a second finger chain (7) with a shorter distance between the bags. The packaging product is fed at an angle to the path of the packaging foil between toothed belts arranged above each other at the distance between the bags and is inserted into the bags. Simultaneously, the packaging film is continuously fed as a partial film tube (11) to a transverse welding device (13) in which the partial film tube is welded to form several interconnected bags. After welding th e bag chain is continuously transported further for the introduction of the packaging product. An independent claim is also included for a bag chain packaging machine.
