PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an extension former which can perform the expansion forming of a coil to a position where it can secure an enough layer insulation even in the case where a layer insulating paper is inserted automatically. SOLUTION: A contact part 11, which expands in contact with the coil end part of a coil end, and a projection 12, which projects from the contact part 11, are made in the expansion former 10, and the projection 12 is provided at the end on the stator core side of the contact part 11. Then, this expansion former 10 is arranged inside the internal perimeter of the stator core, and it is shifted in the direction of its separating from the stator core besides being the axial direction of the stator core, after being shifted in the peripheral direction of the stator core from that state, thereby performing the expansion forming of the coil.
