摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic design method for an electric discharge machining electrode for a metal mold for starting an electrode design simultaneously with the design of the metal mold, and shortening the design period as a whole, and also to provide a system, a program and a recording medium for the method. <P>SOLUTION: This method automatically designs the electric discharge machining electrode for the metal mold based on three-dimensional molded article model data M stored in a computer. This method comprises: a molded article model input step 1 of reading the three-dimensional molded article model data M; an electrode object portion extraction step 2 analyzing normal line direction data of all the surfaces included in the read model data and determining and extracting surfaces except for the horizontal and vertical surfaces as electrode working objects; and an electrode shape forming step 3 of sweeping and working the model data including the data specifying the extracted electrode object portions while retaining the shape of the electrode object portions and automatically creating data of the electric discharge machining electrodes for working the object molded articles. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p>
