PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus capable of obtaining a preferable image in a state of a backlight scene or a high contrast scene. SOLUTION: The digital camera extracts a region equivalent to that of the face of a person in the case of exposure correction and provides assist information on the basis of information obtained from the extracted face region. A photographer can judge the propriety of exposure correction and a correction amount on the basis of the assist information, and obtain an excellent image wherein a principal object is reproduced with proper lightness and colors with less image deterioration such as black decay in the backlight scene, white jump and yellowing in the high contrast scene. The photographer can easily judge occurrence of the black decay and white jump or the like by the assist information for indicating a histogram of a hue of the face region. On the occurrence of yellowing, the digital camera raises warning, then production of a deteriorated image in spite of carrying-out of the exposure correction or deterioration in the reproduced image due to too much correction can be avoided.
