PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image recording apparatus and an electronic camera whereby an on-screen information image is visually recognized to identify the resolution of a recorded image. SOLUTION: A CPU 16 gives a timing signal whose frequency is changed in response to a resolution change command to an image signal generating section 14 and an on-screen display signal generating section 28. The image signal generating section 14 changes the resolution of photographing image data on the basis of the timing signal. The on-screen display signal generating section 28 also changes the resolution of on-screen information image on the basis of the timing signal. A video signal generating section 27 composites the photographing image and the on-screen information image whose resolutions are changed and displays the result on a display means 30.
