PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To automate a process for applying a protective layer forming material not only to enhance production efficiency but also to simplify work while uniforming the quality of a formed peelable protective layer. SOLUTION: First-fourth robots 16a-16d, which are controlled by a control part 18 to be made susceptible to teaching operation, are provided in the vicinity of a feed line 12. Jet mechanisms 42 are installed on the leading end parts of the third arms 40 of the first-fourth robots 16a-16d. The protective layer forming material, which comprises an acrylic copolymer agent acting as the peelable protective layer after drying, is ejected toward a car body 14 from the first jet gun tips 44a, second gun tips 44b and first-third interposed jet gun tips 44c-44e of the jet mechanisms 42 when the car body 14 is fed through a coating process. At this time, the diffusion width of the protective layer forming material is narrowest at the first jet gun tips 44a and successively made large in the order of the first-third interposed jet gun tips 44c, 44d and 44e and the second jet gun tips 44b.
