PURPOSE: A device of automatically compensating for a picture outputted from a beam projector is provided to detect the installed state of a rear type or a front type beam projector, thereby automatically compensating for a video distortion for an image projected on a screen. CONSTITUTION: Supersonic sensors(11-14) measure upper, lower, left, right distances between a beam projector and a screen. A vertical distance comparator(31) compares a measured value for the upper distance with a measured value for the lower distance, and outputs a vertical state signal in accordance with the compared result. A right/left distance comparator(32) compares a measured value for the left distance with a measured value for the right distance, and outputs a right/left state signal in accordance with the compared result. A system controller(40) controls a reflection angle of a reflecting mirror configured within an optical engine based on the vertical state signal and the right/left state signal, and performs control for compensating for a displayed screen.
