<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an exhaust emission control device for an internal-combustion engine, for example the exhaust gas from a diesel engine, containing toxic substances or particulates, capable of removing them even in a low-temperature condition of the exhaust gas as low as equal to or below 150°C. <P>SOLUTION: The exhaust emission control device is structured so that a filter, an adsorbent, and a plasma generator are installed in the exhaust gas flue of the internal-combustion engine and that particulate matter captured by the filter and/or the exhaust gas components absorbed wuth adsorbent are purified using the plasma at a temperature between room temperature and a temperature at which the particulates will not ignite normally. The impressed voltage is made between 1 V and 10 kV. The frequency of the impressed voltage is made between 10 Hz and 100 MHz. The adsorbent consists of oxides or composite oxides containing alkali metal and/or alkali earth metal, while the filter consists of piezoelectric ceramics and/or ferroelectric ceramics. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI</p> |
