摘要 <p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve a known method for synthesizing astaxanthin so as to avoid defects of a conventional technology for connecting a 9C unit with a 6C unit. <P>SOLUTION: The 9C unit is connected with the proper 6C unit by using a 3-methylpentenyn-3-ol derivative represented by formula (I) (wherein, R<SP>3</SP>is an ether transformable into hydroxy by hydrolysis, a silyl ether or an acetal protective group) in an organic solvent in the presence of lithium amide instead of butyllithium or a Grignard reagent.
