PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus using reversal development for realizing the separation properties of a transfer material and high image quality by emitting lights when the transfer member is separated. SOLUTION: The surface of an electrostatic latent image holding member 21 is uniformly electrified by the corona discharging of an electrifying means 22. Exposure is carried out in accordance with the image information so that an electrostatic latent image 41 can be formed with an electrostatic latent image forming means 23. A developing member 32 is stuck to the electrostatic latent image 41 so that a development member image 42 can be formed by a developing means 24. Then, the development member image 42 is transferred to a transfer member 37 by using a transferring means 25. A separation assisting means 50 is arranged behind the separating means 26, and the surface of the electrostatic latent image holding member 21 at a separating position C is exposed. In this case, an electrifying quantity detecting means 58 and an exposure control means 59 are arranged so that the exposure of the separation assisting means 50 can be controlled according to the electrifying quantity.
