PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the drying device in an underwater decomposition type garbage treatment apparatus capable of cleanly discharging dried matter obtained by drying a decomposition liquid without leaving the same in a drying chamber and capable of preventing the scattering of the dried matter to the periphery of a cyclone. SOLUTION: The drying device 6 connected to a decomposition tank is equipped with the drying chamber 63 and a discharge mechanism 64 comprising a blower 67 and the cyclone 68. An exhaust blower 62a for introducing hot air having contributed to drying into the decomposition tank through a hot air pipe 62 is connected to the drying chamber 63 and the upper part of the cyclone 68 is to allowed to communicate with the suction side of the exhaust blower 62a through a communication pipe 68c. Further, a first detector 71 for detecting the opening and closing of an on-off door 70 for taking out or attaching a recovery box 69 and a second detector 72, which detects that the recovery box 69 is attached to a proper position, are provided, and the exhaust blower 62a and the blower 67 are operated so as to be controlled on the basis of the detection results of the first and second detectors 71 and 72.
