A hermetic compressor has oil agitation-preventing plates (201) radially arranged and placed in oil (106) in an oil sump (120). The plates (201) prevent the oil (106) from being agitated to minimize the rise of the oil level, preventing, in a high-speed operation of a crank shaft (104), the oil (106) with a raised level from following the flow (C) of a refrigerant gas (127) that U-turns. As a result, a gas where liquid is sufficiently separated is discharged.
