<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic which exhibits excellent insulation properties, especially in a high-temperature range, and is suitable for forming an insulation layer capable of easily forming a heater; and an electrochemical element having such an insulation layer. <P>SOLUTION: The electrochemical element has a ceramic, a solid electrolytic substrate, an insulation layer, and a heater. The insulation layer is formed from the ceramic, contains aluminum oxide and calcium oxide in a content of 3-30 mass% (in terms of oxide) based on the aluminum oxide, and has a surface roughness of at most 1.0 μm. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
