PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a two-dimensional photonic crystal device which is easily manufactured and used as a superior wavelength selecting filter. SOLUTION: Columnar poles 62 are arranged in a square lattice manner to constitute a two-dimensional photonic crystal. The crystal has crystal defect in which one column of the poles 62 is eliminated. A resonator 51 is formed in a line shaped waveguide 5 which is constituted by the defect. The resonator 51 is constituted by forming two subpoles 23 that are positioned to the side, on which light beams are made incident with respect to a main pole 21 and two subpoles 22 that are positioned to the side, from which the light beams are emitted with respect to the pole 21 in the waveguide 5. The poles 21, 22 and 23 are made of the same material of the poles 62 and the poles 21, 22 and 23 are collectively formed with the poles 62 by patterning a silicon thin film which is formed on a silicon substrate 6 through a SiO<SB>2</SB>oxidized film 61. Among the light beams which are made incident on the waveguide 5, only the light beams having a specific wavelength are resonated and passed through the resonator 51. COPYRIGHT: (C)2005,JPO&NCIPI |
