PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a conjugate of a hydroxamic acid derivative and hyaluronic acid which has an inhibitory action against matrix metalloprotease (MMP). SOLUTION: In the conjugate, a group of formula (1) (wherein R<SB>1</SB>is a hydrogen atom, a hydroxy group, an alkyl group or an alkoxy group; R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>are each a linear or branched alkyl group; R<SB>4</SB>is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; R<SB>5</SB>is -R<SB>7</SB>-R<SB>8</SB>-R<SB>9</SB>-; R<SB>6</SB>is a hydrogen atom or an alkyl group; R<SB>7</SB>is a linear or branched alkylene group; R<SB>8</SB>is a methylene group, an imino group or an oxygen atom; R<SB>9</SB>is an alkylene group optionally having 1-3 oxygen atoms; and R<SB>1</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>may optionally form a ring) is bonded to a hydroxy group in hyaluronic acid, its derivative or their salts forming a carbamate bond.
