PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for covering drain, having higher adaptability to the environment than ever. SOLUTION: This material 4 for covering drain is so formed that a carbonized material obtained by carbonizing a carbon-containing component is laid under the ground. Thus, the carbonized material obtained by carbonizing the carbon-containing component is changed into powder charcoal under the ground, after laid under the ground for a long period, and returned to the soil. Further, the carbonized material can be plowed in the soil, has excellent affinity for the environment, and has a higher specific gravity, when compared with thermoplastic foamed resin particles conventionally used.
