PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compositionally graded sintered alloy in which the remarkable improvement of practicability and the expansion of application can be attained by simultaneously improving the hardness, wear resistance, toughness, strength and chipping resistance in the vicinity of the surface, and also improving the alloy properties at the inside, and to provide a method of producing the same. SOLUTION: At least one type of a specific metal element selected from Cr, Au, Ge, Cu, Sn, Al, Ga, Ag, In, Mn and Pb is added to the starting material powder of a hard sintered alloy, it is held under heating in an inert gas atmosphere under the vapor pressure of the specific metal element or above to uniformize the composition, and thereafter, the atmosphere is changed into a vacuum under the vapor pressure of the specific metal element or below, so that the specified metal element is scattered from the surface to form a graded composition.
