PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of a Bi-2223 wire rod having high critical current density, that is, a bismuth based oxide superconducting wire rod having a Bi-2223 phase as a main phase. SOLUTION: This manufacturing method of the bismuth based oxide superconducting wire rod has a process of forming a metal tube into a wire rod by applying plastic working to it after powdering and mixing raw materials containing Bi, Pb, Sr, Ca, and Cu respectively and filling the obtained raw material powder mixture in the metal tube, and a process of heat-treating the obtained wire rod. Pb/Bi (mol ratio) in the raw material powder mixture is not more than 0.15, or preferably more than 0.05 and not more than 0.15, and the heat treatment is applied under the condition in which the raw material powder mixture is partially fused.
